After a one-week layoff, Tuesday’s Tricksters are back! As a reminder, these are confusing words because they’re homophones (or nearly so), meaning they sound alike or at least very similar, but are spelled differently and have different meanings. If we only use the sound of the word to guide us, we might make a mistake.
And yes, as always I learned something: coulis. I had seen the word but never actually bothered to learn its definition. Now I know!
Also, I’m guessing that the Grand Coulee Dam in Washington state was named because of its location, high above a huge ravine . . . any experts out there on that?
